At ASP Plumbing and Heating Services, we have over 10 years’ experience and the equipment for gas leak detection and repair. We use electronic combustible gas detectors to pinpoint the location of the leak where possible and endeavour to carry out a straightforward repair. If the leak is suspected to be on a gas pipe beneath a concrete floor, it is advisable that the pipe is rerouted, rather than repaired. In extreme cases, gas appliances such as boilers, fires or cookers may need to be condemned if they are showing signs of a gas leak.
It is crucial that you address a suspected gas leak as quickly as possible. Natural gas is highly combustible and even small amounts could result in a fire or explosion. Do not ignore gas leaks, even if they appear to be minor.
Carbon Monoxide Poisoning
Carbon monoxide is a lethal gas produced by incomplete combustion of fossil fuels. If your gas appliance is not burning correctly, either from poor ventilation or faulty appliance seals, then carbon monoxide may be produced in excess amounts. It is important to have your gas appliances serviced and checked regularly to ensure they are operating safely and burning the correct amount of gas.
The following symptoms relate to carbon monoxide poising:
- Feeling and being sick
- Tiredness and confusion
- Stomach pain
- Shortness of breath and difficulty breathing
If you are experiencing any of these symptoms you should contact a doctor immediately and then follow the same steps advised by the National Grid for gas leaks. ASP Plumbing and Heating Services are trained in using carbon monoxide detecting equipment and installing CO alarms. If you have had an appliance or gas supply turned off by the National Grid due to carbon monoxide related issues, please give us a call.
